So for any of you that remember my poor little gray apple snail who had someone gotten a whole in his shell, I hate to say that he has passed.

I'm guessing that something other than the shell must have been wrong. I patched it up as suggested, but after about a week he still wasn't eating despite my giving him several different types of food. I found him floating today and he didn't smell alive, so...yea.

Snails are just too funny to watch...he'll be missed greatly.

To those that offered me help, thanks so much. He just didn't make it in the end.

So sorry for your loss. I've had a couple of favorite snails die and I miss them.

eh, BTW you live in cali? because I'm at major snail loss... they die of escaping the tank... for some reason... my copper is definitely in check and they aren't mature yet

Aw DGalt, that's terrible! He may have damaged his organs when his shell was damaged. You made a great effort at keeping him alive though. RIP little dude.

1oooop, your snails are escaping the tank because they are looking for a place to lay their eggs. A normal part of a snail's activity. That is why a tight-fitting lid is a MUST when keeping snails. Also, you may not be feeding them enough. Often starving snails will try to go out looking for food.

Sorry to hear about your snail. If you were in Colorado I'd re-stock you. I'm overrun with mystery babies! I really enjoy and get attached to my snails (my grown ups are Butterfly and Birdseye). I hope you can enjoy some again real soon.

I'm in California though, and I have canas and haustrum babies available, if you can pick up.

Sorry for your loss. Did you call him Gary after the snail in sponge bob? If so very cool.

thanks for all the kind words

I'm in CT, so cali is kinda far :lipssealedsmilie:

I'm kinda confused why the common thought is that his name was gary though...I don't think I ever said he was named gary. I said he was a gray apple snail. I'm assuming that's where the name came from

As for funeral, I'm at college but there is this little waterfall that I've been to a couple times near campus, so I buried him there.

I'm not starving them, maybe they are laying eggs like you said... I've actually had a problem of feeding them too much, LOL
