I run 2 Fluval 305s on a 45 gallon heavily planted, heavily stocked tank - what media should I use?

Right now I am using the standard Fluval setup (what comes suggested in the box) - carbon and noodles. I also added polishing pads to both.

I have read that Carbon is no good / unnecessary - true? Especially in a planted tank.

My water stays pretty clear (it should) and healthy - just want the most efficient filter setup for my situation.

Thats a good question. i also have a fluval 305 and was wondering. thanks for the post. hope someone answers soon : ) Where did u put the polishing pads? Where the foam pads go?

you can leave carbon there as is, dont replace it.
I have a 404 and have 4 containers inside so i use ceramic media on the bottom 2, carbon (inactive already) on top of that and then its filter floss. Sponges on the side I leave alone, just rinse every month.

The polishing pads go on the very top (under the covers) of the stack - they are sized / cut to fit.

Thanks BK - sounds good. How often do you change out the carbon? Ceramic media never - correct?

never. Just once a month give it a rinse in tank water. Only thing i would replace if anything is the filter floss which is just as good as the polishing pad

I'd stack both up as if they were singles... biomax in 2 trays and floss on top..

I am curious what arrangment you have the intake and output in... as in where are the various intakes and output placed?

Because I have a corner tank (not sure why?), I am forced to jam the intakes and outputs (if that's what you are talking about) into the back center of the tank. The intakes are right beside each other and the outputs are about 3 or 4 inches apart pointed in different directions (towards the front, side glass).
