hmm that looks like star grass (Heteranthera zosterifolia), and when it gets disturbed or doesnt get enough light, the leaves turn blackish/pale color
what is your lighting??
Do you dose ferts/co2?
Did you just plant/move the plant?

I use AquaZonic 2ft 55W PL light set..
pH = 6.0
gH = 2-3
No2 = 0
No3 = 10
NH3 = no idea..

yes.. that is stargrass..
I have just got the plant from the other party..
I only dose excel.. and no fert so far..

2 feet long..
ADA substrate with AquaBasis on the bottom layer..
no livestock inside it yet..
my tank is going on cycling process..

i think they want to know how many gallons are in the tank. 2 ft long could be a few different sizes

Did you move the plant?
As i said before this plant is sensitive to mishandling and it shows it by black leaves.

Should I just leave the dead leaves alone?
I notice they are growing rather fast..

Does it rub off the leaf? Looks like the start of cynobacteria algae to me.

you can pick or leave the bad leaves alone. Once the plant gets tall enough to trim, cut off the top, throw out the bottom bad part and you should be good.
