right now in the tank is only java fern.. i want a couple more plants to prove some more stuff for the fish to swim around.. any suggestions? http://img118.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic2fs5.jpg ideally i want to have to provide near 0 support for the plants.. and the light is only your standard bulb for a 48" hood, so around .5 wpg

Maybe Anubias or Cryptocoryne, plus the standard Java moss. But dont quote me ont he plants, but I really think you should try to get to 1WPG.

get a dual bulb lighting. like a shop light or something. try crypts and anubias

Perfect idea, plus Walmart, lowes or home depot sell a set of 32w 6500k T8 daylight 2bulb sets for 6.99 plus a $10 shop light, shouldnt cost more than $20 with tax for the whole setup.

hmm that is a lot cheaper then i thought it would be.. worth looking into then. Will a little over 1 wpg be enough for whats listed or will i also have to start dosing ferts? eventually i want to do a planted tank but i want to do it right with pressurized co2, etc. I am trying to ease myself back into the hobby (even though i have plans for 3 more tanks lol)

The fish and their food should provide enough nutrients at that light level, plus water changes.

hmm seems like i might just stick to 2 bulbs for now with room to upgrade... from what im reading 3wpg would cause some pretty decent algae problems without good balance of ferts co2 and plants.

It will cause alot of alge without a good balance of ferts and co2..+1 on what Mg and Riiz said..i did a dual shop light for my other 55 and it was cheap

will 6500k bulbs be ok? cant find 6700
