i got locked out of my dorm for 2 weeks between summer and fall and not being let in for the full 2 weeks
i have 2 gsp, about 2-3 inches, i fed them frozen krill, shrimp pellets and a shrimp right before i left for regular feeding, not realizing i'd be gone (happy i did feed them right before i left tho)
is this too long? they went without food for a week and a half about 5 months ago when i was in the hospital
i sure hope they are ok :wall:

Does the school allow aquariums? If not, be careful, they could kick you out of the dorms. If they allow aquariums- call the dean of students and explain the situation. They may let you come in and remove the fish- be prepared to move them to another tank (probably won't give you the time needed to break down the tank- take filter, some water and substrate to set up new tank - not true cycling but better than from scratch). But if they have a no pet policy- contacting anyone about it could cause you to lose your dorm room and may even cause you to be expelled from school (depends on school - some are more strict than others- got away with a cat for 3 mos. at Temple Univ.-RA knew and kept it quiet- cat went home and stayed there at the end of the semester). If you want to keep your aquariums at school, you should look into getting an apartment with some friends to prevent this happening again.

ya they are allowed, i wanted to move off campus but parents wanted me to stay on for one more year :( tried calling them and explaing but for "security purposes" no on is allowed, i guess i'll just see, 6 more days till i'm back! i'm all ready ready to give them some food and do a water change!
they went 11 days when they were younger hopefully they'll be fine this time

That sucks. "Security issue"= we're cleaning and don't want to be bothered. If they are truly worried about security, they could escort you and give you only 15 min. Did they give advanced notice that the dorm would be closed? Most schools do. If not, complain. Would they allow a staff member (hope you didn't make maintenance's life hard- stay on their good side- they sometimes will help you- they are more understanding than the administration at most schools) to feed the fish? You could show them how- should be hungry. At least they could tell you if the tank looks ok.

do you think 2 weeks is going to be too long to go without any food tho?

Can you ask them to allow you in just to feed the fish with a security escort?

2 weeks is fine. My worry is if you overfed them & the tank is fouled. Did you do a good WC before you left? How large is your tank? 2 GSPs >2" would require a minimum of a 55g tank & I doubt they are going to allow that in a dorm room. My guess is the tank is probably way overstocked. There is where you run into problems when not being able to do regular WC.

yeh had did a huge water recently (pretty much 100%) because i moved the tanks, they are in a 20 gal each at the time, i know that they need 30 gal each as adults so i think its ok atm, i didn't over feed i just gave them a lil of the each i named above, i feed till their bellies get round but not bulge, so i think they'll be alright thanks for the help

Are you doing weekly water changes of at least 50%? I'd do more like 75% myself, with 2 in... what size tank?

going to move out next spring and see how the pair do together. if they arn't aggressive i'll do a 55 with them maybe 75
