Groups of huge bubbles randomly coming out of UGF... Airstone trouble?

Lately, if you are sitting near my 2 gal betta tank, every once and a while you hear a giant 'BLOOOOP!' and a big stream of oversized bubbles goes shooting to the surface, scaring the heck out of my poor fish.

Is there something wrong with my cheapo comes-with-the-tank-kit UGF? Or is it the airstone?
 
Mine did that when I had the air stone too far down and some of the bubbles were going under the filter instead of floating right up. Might pull it up just a little and see if that fixes it.
 
I would take the airline tube and shake it a little to see if there is any obstructions in the way. If that doesnt work, you might have to break down the tank to see what the real problem is.
 
Hmm... The bubbles come out of the air tube thing, not the gravel.
And last time I did a water change there was this slimy mold on the airline... :P
