I have a 90 gallon tank with two Oscars, and my gf has a 29 gallon tank with 7 Giant Danios. We're moving in, so I want to get rid of the 29 tank. Could I put the Danios in my tank with the Oscars? They seem fast enough not to get eaten? The Oscars are also still very small.

The Giant Danios they're slightly larger than "food" for many cichlids and very fast. My zebra danios, being a lot smaller, are still living fine having been in my 30g with 3 cichlids that could eat them for over a month (they have their own community tank now).

Giant danios would make excellent dither fish with the Oscars.

still a good chance some will get eaten though when the oscars get bigger.

if possible, i would strongly suggest getting a larger tank in the near future, at least 120g. the danios will likely be killed in a 90 with two oscars. If you cant get a larger tank , maybe get rid of one of the oscars... ;)

Why not keep both tanks? 29's are easy to find space for :)

THESACK has a good point in that a 90g is not enough for 2 oscars. it would depend on how big the oscars are.

Are they a breeding pair?

i would upgrade to a 120 or 125 or sumthing like that and put the danios in.

I have 4 giant danios in with my 2 oscars in a 100 gallon tank and they are fine together. The oscars chased them about for a couple of days and then totally ignored them.

I think that a 90 gallon will be fine for 2 oscars and a few giant danios as long as there is great filtration and weekly water changes are done.

With two oscars, two firemouths, two bristlenose plecos and 4 giant danios my nitrates don't go above 20ppm, and are usually around 15ppm, but I do have 2 Rena Filstar XP3's (straight biological) and a Aquaclear 500 (mechanical) and clean the tank every week (20% or so). My fish are all full grown so I don't feed as much though...

Well, I guess I could find a place to put the 29, but I think the Danios are too big for that tank. They seem way to active for a 29. In fact, they were in my 90 before I got the Oscars.

I'm not sure if they're a breeding pair, from what I've read it's almost impossible to check the sex on the Oscars.

Also, I hope the filtration is enough. I have 2 Penguin 330's and a Fluval 304 in there.
