What in the heck do I do now?

Well, my wife and I have been discussing selling our 220. To be quite honest, I just don't find the large fish as interesting as I do the smaller ones. It takes up to much space, power, and money.

THEN, I come home tonight to discover that the 2 Jags I have in there are in fact a breeding pair. I had no idea they were even opposite sex. I now know this b/c when I got home there was a ton of eggs and the male was in the process of fertilizing them (or what ever you call it in aquaria lingo).

This actually explains a lot. They have been super aggressive the past week and I didn't know why. They have also been working together to move a mountain a gravel. In the pic below if you look carefully you can see the male organ on the eggs.

So what do I do? If you need a stock list of the tank I can list it. They are very protective and guarding the nest right now. So i don't thing any other fish with hurt it a t the moment.

I would love to do all I can to help them hatch out their eggs and make their clutch a success.

Please help. This is very unexpected and unprepared for. Any suggestions and advice is very welcome and very appreciated.

What about when they hatch? How long does it take for them to hatch? Do I just leave them in there with all the other fish then?

Provided they don't simply eat them since it's their first spawn, just leave the fry in the tank and they'll sort themselves out. Among any survivors (uneaten by other fish) a few of the larger fry will eat the smaller/weaker ones, and eventually you'll end up with a much smaller number of fry.

i would leave them alone unless you want a ton of babies to put some where else and have to feed them but even you if you place your hand in there they will attack your hand very good protectors unless they are too young, i had seen a pair swim and try to attack your face when looking down on their eggs, if they do good your other fish will stay at the other end of the tank if not they will pay for it congrats on the fry..

The eggs are wigglers now. I'll get pics if i can, but I have a pos camera. Doesn't do well with fish at all.
