I currently keep some small to medium fancy goldfish in 10 and 20 gallon tanks. Since they are growing very rapidly I would like to upgrade them to something larger. Well, I can't afford to buy a tank AND a stand so I thought I might improvise.
Beware:this is extremely retarted and redneck but I think it just my work.
Could I keep 3-5 fancy goldfish in a filtered plastic baby pool......its ok you can laugh. LOL!
I figured the HUGE amount of surface area would provide great oxygen. I would treat it like the rest of my tanks.
Like this....LOL! I am laughing at myself...

I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as you keep up on the maintenance, etc. For one, I think it's a great idea! More power to the rednecks!

Should be fine. Redneck would have been using an old horse trough which I may try in the relatively near future. ;)
Remember to keep that pool in the shade.

I think that it's a great idea and don't see why it would't work...I mean people use old bathtubs for ponds so why not a kiddy pool ?!?

You know your a redneck when... Some are treated to retard algae growth so I would start with some feeder fish just to be sure. Otherwise it sounds good.

great Ideas guys. Sadly my parents said no. They said it would make my room humid and mildewy. They have no creativity.:irked:

since you can't afford a fish tank and a stand, why not just buy a fish tank, and put it on the floor, then complain to your parents that you keep tripping on it and see if they will pitch in for a stand to save money on hospital bills....

hehe...i had one of those set up at my house for several months. it was stinky even though i did regular maintenance on it and hard to filter because it is shallow but large. the goldfish i had in there liked it though, even if they were just for feeding purposes. your parents are right about the humidity. we had to leave the fan on all the time because of it. i'd say get a tank and set it up on the floor or try to find a tank/stand second hand for cheap

I just wanted to let you know that, that story really cracked me up! Good luck with your tank and fish!

Why not just keep it outside? Goldfish can survive 2 inches of ice over them. As long as the pond isn't frozen solid and it has a hole at the top for gas exchange.
