i got this real plant called parrots feather. its close to un-killable. its a floating mass that fish can hide in or when flakes start sinking, they get stuck in it. as fish pick out the flakes, they roll the plant over and move it around the tank. other wise you just have to check all your local stores. or www.bigalsonline.com

maybe there is a real dense twiggy branch in your yard that would create small gaps for small fish but be too tight for bigger fish. not sure how you would prepare it for use in the aquarium though.

i used to have a plastic cobomba plant that would probably be good for very small fish.

try here:

ebay also has tons of plant, real and fake.

This is what I used to use in plastic, it came in 6" square mats that you could leave in 1 piece or cut apart as needed. It is only 2" high:

The closest thing I could see was this 3-1/2 inch plant at Big Als:

Another idea, if you can only find a tall bushy plant, cut the stems in 1/2 and tie them horizontally with fishing line to stones or something to weigh them down.
