Can I keep my oscar fish (~3-4 inches right now) in a large vase with a stick of lucky bamboo?

We didn't know anything about fish really and my husband just bought him/her yesterday, also the salesperson did not tell him anything about the fish getting very large or needing a big tank. I read that they are supposed to be in a large tank to really thrive but maybe it will still live a while in the vase? If this one is doomed, does anyone know of a fish that can thrive in a vase, preferably with bamboo? I have heard mixed things about betta fish.

There isn't any bamboo in the vase (which is about 2 gallons) right now, there is just some colored marbles and a little anchor with a fake plant on it. I just wanted to know if lucky bamboo would be ok to put with an oscar. Also the pet store will not take the fish back, so I guess all I can do is wait it out and see if it dies, since we do not have the room or desire to buy (not to mention maintain) a large tank.

I would love to have but I don't have access to that blog. It was from at least a year ago though. I wish I could have found it sooner. ::(:

Anything for a buck! Wonder if they would try to keep their kid in a shoebox?
