Is this common to the untrained eye? (lighting color temp)

On my 55 gal i had the lighting strip and bulb that came with it over 5 years ago( I assume a different color temp). I have just recently replaced that with 2 6500k bulbs. However this solution only looks equally as bright at most.. maybe even less.
Is that normal to be seen that way because of the different color temp?

yes, the 6500k have a more yellow appearance. the color gets "whiter and bluer" as it gets higher in number. Many people prefer around 10000k for aesthetic reasons.
 
perhaps ill switch one of the two bulbs out with a 10000k, is that ok for plants?
 
I'm surprised nobody's asked this but, how many watts were you using previously for light, and how many now?
 
was just 1 40w before but the light at least looking at the light was more purple so i assume 10k area. now i am running two so 80w, i put the old 10k back in and kept one of the 6500k and looks much better.
 
ah ok it might be that then. It was the bulb that came with the hood so not a lot of info. thanks.
