So I am totally new with saltwater tanks, but I've had a few freshwater tanks. I just purchased a new 100 gallon tank with a stand and it came with a few things and I want to make it a marine tank.

here are a few things that it came with:

* Eheim Professionel 2 External Aquarium Filter
-up to 158 US Gallons
-277 Us gallons/hour
* Maxi-Jet 900 Multi-Use Submersible Pump & Power Head
-230 gallons per hour
* Seaclone 150 Protein Skimmer with max-jet 1200 pump
* marine Glo 40 W bulb
* Live Rock

What else do I need? And I am very confused about whether or not a sump is needed and what more materials i need to make a sump?

It is currently not running, the rock is in a container with the heater running.

What do you guys think?

What is your overall goal? That will help to determine what is needed.
A sump is not needed but it gives a place to hide equipment and adds water volume. I am not using mine at the moment due to an odd problem but it was simply an unused tank with pressure fit acrylic baffles.

well; to start off I just want to establish a good marine tank with live rock and eventually add soft corals and stuff in the future...

I will be starting to set it up in about a week or so to let it cycle with the live rock. I'm trying to determine like which equipment goes where and what else I need because that equipment that is listed came with the tank in a custom cabinet.

I've been doing alot of research but I trust the experience of others.

I guess the most important question that I have is if the equipment that i have is sufficient to later on start to add corals...

I would look into getting more/different powerhead options. The maxijet works, but it is going to be woefully inadequate for your tank. I'd look into the seio powerhead line, as well as Hydor's Koralia line. The latter would be a bit easier to work with. That should give you the water motion you'd need quite easily.

If possible, I'd also look into getting a sump, which just involves another container of water in the bottom and a relatively small return pump to push it back into the tank. Do you have any way of having the tank drilled? This route will make things much easier on you in the long run, for sure, as well as opening up lots of other filtration options (particularly, some better protein skimmer options).

A lighting upgrade will also be necessary if you want corals. In short, there are many changes that I would recommend that would make things easier for you before adding corals.

Your filter will be fine and some will tell you eventually it will not be needed. I do keep one running myself though.
Nothing wrong with the Maxi jet power head but you will likely want more. I like Koralia power heads and you will see most agree.
I have no experience with that skimmer but most say it is a bit difficult to use as it needs frequent adjustments. I use a Remora.
Probably going to need more light for any type of corals. I used 216 watts when I had my 55 gallon set up and use 150 watts over my 29 gallon. I have not yet started with corals though so someone else's advise will probably be worth more than mine.
As for live rock....shoot for 1-2 lbs per gallon.

Thanks for your opinions;

I'll probably be looking for another powerhead for the tank and try to get the tank drilled this week; i'll keep everyone posted in the meantime...

The other question I had was that the tank came with live rock.. is it okay to reuse it? or should i be looking to purchase a new batch?

Yes, it can be re-used. If it was dead, it will take a while to become live again though....But, looking long term, it will be good...

So i've been doing some research as to more equipment that i may need to order this week.. what do you guys think about having the koralia 3 added to my tank.. or maybe the 4

and what about this light fixture to replace my current one

As for the live rock, after buying the tank I put it in a bucket with saltwater and a heater so it has not dried up... do i need to run anything else in the bucket while it is waiting for me to set up the tank?
