I have been cleaning my tank so many times, and cant help to wonder what that grayish sometimes greenish crap I am taking out. Whether it's detritus or mulm I can't seem to figure it out.

Anyone have pictures of the stuff they siphon out their tanks? I mean, I can clean it, but I've heard it's either vacuum it or keep it for the sake of plants and some shrimps.

Pictures of the stuff would be nice to see if I should be stressing over it.

Don't worry, my aquarium is not blanketed by the stuff.

i have some grayish greenish crap in a planted tank that has a slight algae problem. it's like the algae grows right on the substrate in little piles, and it traps bits of mulm and food in it. most of it vacs out pretty easily, but some of it is stuck to the sand and is too heavy for the python to take out.
