Hi i have a 185g/h hob power filter from a brand called Weipro from China in my 55g tank ...
( i m runin it 24/7 now )
it has 3 stages , and they were all sponges when i bought it , i took out the middle stage sponge , and replace it with some Ceramic filter and some Active Carbon ...
it s runin great ,the water s crystal clear , and except that my fishes don t like the flow pressure ! it dosn t seems to have any problems ,
So the questions are :
---first of all is it a good thing that i replace one of sponges with ceramic and active carbon ?
---where s the best place to put my hob filter ? ( i put it at the right back corner of tank toward the width )
---after how long should i wash sponges or replace them and so with carbon and ceramics ?
---and at last is this filter enough for my aquarium ?

I am not familiar with that brand, but it sounds a little bit too small for me and I would recommend adding another HOB. WHat kind of fish are you keeping?

Just rinse the heavy gunk on the sponges off in some old tank water when the flow seems to decrease. The carbon should be changed every 7-10 days as it gets expended.

As stated, 2 filters would be better, An Aqua Clear 50 is rated at 200 gal per hour, with media a little less, the filter you have is not big enough for a 55 imo, even lightly stocked, I use a Penguin 350 and a AC 50 on the 45 gal. and they keep it tidy. I would center the filter for now......
