hey all and thanks for reading.

i recently bought 2 bristlenose catfish's the smaller one of the two is really active and is out all day (light) and the larger one just hides all day. does any one know how to get the bigger one more lively and to come out when the lights are on?

help will be appreciated.

How laong have they been in the tank? Tank size and tankmates?

He may just be taking more time to get used to new surroundings.

The little ones are fun because they are out in the open all the time. Not so when they get older though, they will hide most of the time.

That's the worst thing about catfish in general; you hardly see them by day in most cases. I have an adult BN that's never out in the open for long, but the juvies are always active and visible. The L333 juvies are like the big BN, rarely seen and quick to take cover if they see movement outside the tank. On the other hand, my single adult BN keeps a 55 spotless, while 3 juvies hardly made a dent in a 38 overgrown w/algae.

I take it we're talking bristle-nosed plecos? If so it may just be personality. I have two in my 72 gal that are not shy in the least (and never have been) and come out and clean the front glass with the lights on and me right up to the glass watching them. Then I have another in my 10 gal that I see maybe once a week! And if he sees me he runs fast and is hidden in a micro-second. Had all three for over a year now and they are about 4".

I have had different personalities as well. My first one never came out in the open and stuck himself inside caves and such all day. However the one I have now is one of the most active fish in the tank...he is always out and about.
