So its been like really hot the past few days... and 80%+ humidity...

I notice my 84F discus tank is sittin at 76F !!

There are 3 250 watt Stealths in there, about 8 months old each.
I cant determine if ANY of them still work...

Any ideas ?
I can hold the "hot" end underwater, and it doesnt seem to get warm. at all.
I wonder if they got Zapped in the thunderstorm that killed my cordless phone last week...

Ouch! Are they on a surge protector?

they should have an element or led or something that lights up. If anything you should easily be able to feel the heat coming from one of those. Heaters get extremely hot, back in the days when I was noob I took a heater out of one of my tanks and laid it down. Well it stayed on heating and when I put it back in the tank it exploded underwater. lol! scared the pee outta me. If it doesn't warm up your dial is turned the wrong way or it's dead.

oh ck the outlet also, but I assume your tank filters are on it

When my stealths are on, then bottom ends are fairly warm to the touch. When I adjust the dial to turn them up and down from end to end, I can feel the on/off relay move.

No led or lights on a stealth..

Have you tried putting one in a bucket of cold water and see what happens?

Hi Zig,
With my discus tank I get a big secure feeling with the VisiTherm Deluxe models because they have an indicator light. I can see the heater lights on from across the room by glancing at the tank. I run two 300W in my tank and they're glass, but I'm not worried about glass heaters, never had a problem with glass. With over $1000 worth of discus, I buy two new heaters from DrsF&W every year - year and a half just for the peace of mind that they are in great condition. The old ones go in the 55G, I take the old ones from the 55G and keep them as spares.

my visi therm blew up today. I was doing a water change and it went pop sizzle and then fell apart. darn thing!

I use tronic heaters, always have they have a red LED indicator. I haven't bought one in a while tho. Had to be the storm if all 3 went out.
