Well it does happen, and it's all my fault. My beautiful canary wrasse made a leap for freedom onto my carpet. I post this only to share my mistake, and hope others will take a few minutes to avoid jumpers by covering thier tops. I knew this was a possibility but took my chances. Serves me right. :wall: Feel free to laugh at my arrogance, it's will deserved.

the risk of a fish carpet surfing is the one thing keeping me from getting a firefish...don't want to put a cover on a tank with corals in it. one day i might set up a small fowlr tank but the wife isn't going for another tank....yet.
sorry for your loss.

not laughing, I nearly lost a fish the same way.
I had heard various stories of GSPs jumping out of their tanks, but thought Meh! it won't happen to me (I had my lid open to help cool the water in the hot spell a few weeks back) the night after I closed the lid I heard an almighty thud, the first time in nearly a year I had heard this, I guess the water was still a little too warm for him, I turned the lights on just as he was propelling himself from the bottom of the tank to try and leap out, it must have really hurt the second time, he just went and sulked under a rock then, kept my lid firmly shut since.

Thanks so much guys! I also have had heat issues and run a fan throughout the summer. I guess I had to have most of the top open for that reason alone. Lets hope this is the only one for a while for all of us.

Big ouch lilim10! Mine was only $15, but was easily my favorite. He or she was really social and all it's time was spent in the open. Also really cool to watch dart into the sand.
