All started last night.
So i just got the 125 cycled last week.
So i let my Dempsey's enjoy there playground while we went to search for some tankmates (me and the wife that is).
So we got 2 Firemouth cichlid 5-7 inch, 2 malawi mixes same size. with the Dempseys being big. I
ts hard to find good "tankmates" so I know for most peeps here this seems to NOT be a good mix (I consider myself semi-advanced with FW along with my wifes knowlege and all at AC I think we can handle anything Just in case we also have 3 other tanks set up for containment if needed.)

We also got a Striped convict black and white AMAZING COOL!!! we like him because the BIG dempsey has been known get rough and we needed somone to put him in "check" if needed.

First day home....Sherriff Jack Went and Played it cool after dropping the posse in. Then Deputy Jack and the Convict lip-locked for about 15 minutes or so untill Sheriff Jack came up and Used his Nightstick on him...Evr since my tank has been PEACEFUL TO THE MAX WITH XTRA CLEAR WATER...Still is clear. Paramaters good. ph 7.2 Nitrate 20ppm ammonia 0 thats all I got.

AHHH we also bought a big rock cave. THIS IS WHERE I THINK THE PROBLEM STARTED!!!!

OK so for week boiled and soaked that DARN rock:wall: i put it in the tank ran like 200,000 wasted gallons of water all over it to make sure it was good to go. So a couple days later the Little Lady says look at this muck....there was white crazy pores of "fungus" i think. Sorry no pics i removed Immed and cleaned tank, water change all the goodies.

Well this morning one of the Firemouths looked like the rock!!! All fuzzy and white .....so i did my Meds and water changed QT him , HE DIED!!!!

DARNIT FIRST LOSS IN A LONG LONG LONG TIME:eek3:

Sorry for the rant .....had to get it off my chest the wifes tired of hearing about it.....

HAHA and to top it off i was pulling out a boxed up Fluval 404 and decided to boil it too...well i melted the impellar and all the internals about $30 bucks worth !!:wall::wall::wall::wall:

TAKE YOUR TIME DONT RUSH !!! I relearned that today....My loss well he was on sale 2 for 10 bucks....all the other fish look great are amazingly active and eating like Gluttenous pigs.

Thanks for listening..

I have a FM with my Africans, and I haven't had any problems with the mix. Sorry to hear about the loss and problems.

Sorry to here about your loss. I think acclimating Firemouths correctly is key. I have had bad luck with Firemouths in particular over any other Central American Cichlid I have owned. I currently own one who is healthy and happy. This guy was the last one I told myself I was going to try. I lost 3 all to unknown deaths. The only thing I can think of is acclimation problems.

If you get another one put it in QT and acclimate it slowly.

yeah i boiled the parts never an issue b4 oh well out 30 bucks for parts. works fine now. hehe never again. the other firemouth is loving the tank. I got them all at petsinc in tempe,az very decent joint. mostly college kid staff but i go to same guy usually cause they get commision and i used to sling guitars for 4 years while waiting to get a full time job at UPS... yeah i drive one of them big brown non air-conditioned turds.
i got the rock at another LFS while was looking for livestock. from oceanfloor in phx,az.... huge selection but they tend to make up prices on the fly. but i like them too if u have issues they'll help u out and they pricematch. well the dude i deal with does.us again commision but i get good knowledge from them.
oh btw im typing this on my wii so it may be screwed up.
