Hey! I'm gettin a 55 gal fish tank and I was wondering if you could use tapwater to fill your tank up with? I am goin to put 6 plants to start out. And also, how long do you have to let it sit after you put the chemicals in it before you can put fish in it?(2 guppies, 1 swordtail...if it matters *_*)I am goin to keep the tempature from 70-80 degrees F. Thanks!

Most people use tapwater. Make sure that you get a bottle of dechlorinator that also gets rid of chloramines and use as directed. This is essential. Also you should take a sample of water to your fish store and test it for pH, hardness etc...

What size tank are you getting? And what are you putting in it (other than fish of course)?

Are you going to use artificial plants?

It sounds like you think letting the tank sit will cycle it --- or maybe you aren't even familiar with the cycle process. Whatever the case, I am giving you some links to look at:

How To Cycle Your Tank (http://honors.montana.edu/~weif/firsttank/cycle.phtml)

More Info On How To Cycle Your Tank (http://www.care4fish.com/cycleprocess)

And of course, you can visit my website for help in various areas of fishkeeping. I have many articles on fishkeeping as well as a great cycling page. www.care4fish.com

Good luck!
