It's interesting. I know I'm a newb, and I know I'm about to get my butt yelled at by some on here, but I kept a dwarf gourami in a .5g bowl for a week and a half while I tried to figure out what to do with it since I only had 1 tank which already had 1 aggressive dwarf gourami in it. I did however change the water out with the 20g daily, kept an air stone in it, and kept a close eye on his behavior. He really seemed to do well.

I am sure that many of these mentioned did OK for him, but I feel a bowl is cruel. Pretty sure ASPCA would haul you up on cruelty charges if you kept a dog or horse in the same size-ratio condition. So why is a fish OK?

like keeping a dog in a refrigerator, or a horse in the back of a semi truck

It is very sad. You do see it all the time though. Like having a oscar in a 10 gal is about the same as a betta in a bowl. I get so mad at people when they say "They do ok in that" That may be, but if it weren't for us keeping them in tanks they would have 1000s of gallons of water to swim in so I think the least we can do is the best we can do and give them as big a tank as we can and if ya can't afford a tank big enough for the species then don't keep it.

Ok I am off of my soapbox now.
