Jaredb,

I'd say your best bet is to do some web-surfing and find out exactly what your going to be doing with the tank. Even though alot of people use the generic term "reef tank" there is virtually thousands of different ways to setup and stock a "reef' system.

Also, since there are also thousands of opinions on how a system should be set-up ;) for specific corals, anenomes, etc. It's not a bad idea, once you develop your basic plan, to find someone who has done something similar. If another has done what your planning to do, they can often help you steer clear of potential problems.

Hope this helps.......and have fun planning your reef.

Good morning and welcome to both of you! I agree with Rodge, there are way too many options about reef tanks for a simple answer.

However, I have a few recommendations of books to look through and web sites to have a look at. First, you might do a search on this site for "anemone" and see what people have to say. You might also visit wetwebmedia (http://wetwebmedia.com) and reef central (http://reefcentral.com) and poke around a little bit. The best beginning reefing book, in my opinion, is John Tullock's "Natural Reef Aquariums." I always plug Bob Fenner's "Conscientious Marine Aquarist" as a good grounding in general marine aquarium keeping.

If you want anemones, your biggest expense will be lighting. I'd say at least 5 watts/gallon of power compact or VHO. Metal halide would be even better. You will want about 70-100 lbs of live rock, and a good protein skimmer as well.
