What do yall think are the best plants to use in a sump/fuge. I know that hornwort is going to be one of the top choices, but since this sump is going to be only a few inches off the ground, I'm afraid that the inability to effectively siphon out shed needles might negate the point of having the fuge/veg filter in the first place. Maybe java moss and najas? What are my other options? :help:

i would think something like moneywort or a hygro would be good as long as you have anought light. you also might try a floater like silivans.

What about plain ole Java Moss? Doesn't get easier than that.

duckweed/frogbit are big nutrient hogs (and i know you got tons of them :P)

moss isnt really a nutrient hog so i wouldnt use it..

Thick stem plants like willow leaf hygro/compact hygro are hogs. Anacharis as well.

watersprite and moneywort. Basically anything that is fast growing should soak up nutrients.

Ok! That makes me feel alot better about this. I was hoping i would be able to scape it somewhat, and having a variety of choices definitely helps that. Thanks for the link TTA, i gather from it that my options are not strictly limited to stem plants or floaters. I'm thinking an assortment of fast growing stem plants, some crypts and pygmy chain swords should do the trick. Thanks for all the suggestions and help everyone!

Be careful on acquiring the Pygmy Chain Sword. There are several sp. of Echinodorus tenellus. Most people don't ID them right. The only way I can tell, is to grow them and see how big they get. http://plantgeek.net/plant-217.htm
