Hey all, just wanted to drop a line to support the little guys out there.

SUPPORT your local little dealers if you can.

Sure you may save a few bucks online, but sometimes when you walk into these Local Fishy store you find something that you just might not see anywhere else and absolutely have to get.
So when all these places close those ridiculous/oddball finds will be NO more.
All I'm saying is once these store close then we will all have to deal online, or a major retailer :eek::eek: You wont run into something floating in a tank online.

Anyway if you ask them to pricematch most places will or come close (so you can take it home now or walk out empty handed and wait for it to come after you order it and choose UPS/Fedex to save a few bucks.

They'd rather make a little money than no money as you walk out the door and waste their AC/light/water/staff bill.

Atleast I hope. I have been to a few LFS where the staff try to make you feel like an idiot.

The only mom and pop thats around me is average. I will only support dealers who actually do more than top off and remove dead fish from their tanks. I would support a good mom and pop shop if I had one becuase I'd rather buy more fish than pay shipping and wait for the fish to arrive.

For sure

No doubt. If ya CAN support em please do. If there awful do what ya can to close them. They dont need to be there harming any more Fish than they already have.

My original point which i forgot to put in the original post was i went to this shop i never heard of, pulled in the driveway in the GHETTO
ok...looked like run down hole, went in anyway caue i made the trip and once i opened the door i was in heaven. AMAZING SELECTION OF ALL things we at AC need and more. 10x the fish of any major retailer,

And they had a part(inpeller cover that i couldnt find local anywhere)
for my fluval 404 in stock. Little bitty dealer (well really big actually) way better selection than any chain or bigger LFS in my area. The got a pet pig too!!!!

The way that LFS's will survive is to adapt. They have to offer something that isn't available online. Granted, I'm a little spoiled, but here in the Bay Area we have some terrific LFS. The best are highly specialized and offer things that the other guys(even the online guys) don't or can't. Take AquaForest for example. They specialize in ADA. First thing you see when you walk into(or even near) AquaForest is an award winning ADA scape. You walk in the store and it's almost like going to an art gallery, and you say "I WANT THAT". And they say "We have everything you need...".On top of that they also tend to carry rare, or at least up-until-recently rare fish. Great store, and they(they being the local fish store).

I think that, in general, decent local fish stores aren't going to disappear. The online revolution has only helped thin out those lfs that aren't so good, selling near-dead fish and dramatically overpriced equipment.

My entire life the only lfs's I've seen close are either not good anyway, or the owner is retiring.
