Hi, I am presently setting up a 20 gal long(30 inches) and have a couple questions. I'm new to this, I inherited a 10 gal and a goldfish when I moved into my preschool classroom in the spring. I was given the 20 gal and have set it up in my class as well.

I would like a peaceful tank, with the inhabitants on the small side, 1-2 or 3 inches max.
I would like to fill all levels. I like zebra danios for the top. Orange flame tetras for the mid. Corys on the bottom.

1. I like the green and albino corys, from what I've read they both stay small. I've also read they like to be in groups of 4 or more. Should I just choose one group or will the two school together if I get 2 of each?

2. The tetras I've been looking at are supposedly only going to get to about 1 and 3/4 long. Which is great. How many should I start with and how many should be in a small school for them to be happy? I've read that I should add no more than three at a time and then wait for everything to adjust before adding more to the tank. The same question with the danios. Do I complete one school befoe starting another one? Also can I add a snail or 2.

I'm open to any suggestions. These were the fish I liked (and my students as well, hopefully), and from what I read would get on well. I want to be sure about numbers and if my information is correct before buying any. My water conditions are great so far and have been stable for 5 days. I do have some freshwater plants in there as well, they were planted on saturday.

Any advice would be great. Sorry if some of the answers are obvious, I'm pretty new to this. But I do love it.
Thank you.

:iagree:

albino corys are very active and are fun to watch.

a couple of things you don't mention the equipment that you inherited so I will list some things you need. Sorry if you have them.

1. a 100w heater
2. a filter
3. a liquid test kit
4. some place to keep the fish food so the kids can't dump a whole can of food.
