Hi,

The one LFS I've found in my new area uses a central filtration system, so I was hoping someone on this forum lives nearby and wouldn't mind sharing some filter media. Especially since freshwater bio-spira seems to have been discontinued. I live in the Flemington, NJ area - PM me if you can help!

What size tank are you cycling and what type of filter are you using?

Pinkertd - I'm putting an AC50 on a 29 gallon. But, I can hang whatever in the tank if it won't go directly in the filter. Of course I'd replace whatever media you'd be able to give me.

Ford - I can ask if they'll give me some substrate if I buy fish from them. Today she tried to sell me some non-refridgerated bottle off the shelf that she claimed to have cycling bacteria in it. I declined then looked it up online, it's an algae treatment!

I keep two rows of fluval sponges side by side in my emporer filters for first stage filtration, followed by micron filter sheet, followed by emporer cartridge prior to the biowheel. So I've got 12 of them established and could easily pull one for you and I'll just put a clean one in it's place, my tank won't even burp! You can cut the long fluval sponge into two pieces to fit into your AC 50 and you'd be good to go. When I have to throw up my 29G or another 20G I just move these sponges over to an empty biowheel or an AC and the filter is ready to go instantly. You can squeeze it over your ceramic media as well. How to get it to you without the nitrifying bacteria dying? I'm about 40 minutes south of you in Belvidere, straight down Route 31 North! Clinton would probably be the half-way point if you wanted to meet me half way, it would have to be after work and after the bumper-to-bumper northbound traffic gets out of work.

Debbi-

Thank you so much for your generous offer to help. I knew someone here would! I've sent you a PM...

PM answered and problem solved!:grinyes:

I live in Bethlehem Twp/Hampton Nj (like 10 minutes to Flemington) . I was just wondering, what Fish Store do you go to? I go to one in Phillipsburg but can you recommend one for me to go to in Flemington or around Flemington?

If they wanted to give him algae treatment instead of bacteria, I dont think it would be a good place to go FishKing14. They are trying to make a sale rather than actually help and care about your needs.

The only fish store anywhere near us that I can recommend is the one in Hackettstown on the main street. Clean tanks, healthy fish, they know what they are doing. If you want something special, he'll try to get it for you, he has for me several times in the past. I've been in this area for over 30 years, keeping tanks for the better part of that so I've been to most of them and would not recommend any others. There's one other that was recommended to me a while back but I've never been there and that's between Bethelehem and Allentown PA. So that's not close either.
