Well in all honesty I wasn't actually attempting to breed them. So today I look in my aquarium and I see at least 5 baby ottos. I did not see the actual spawning. Anyways I thought I would give out the specifics on what I had done previously.

I originally had 3 ottos which I had purchased about 1 year ago. They were in a 30 gallon planted aquarium which had gotten out of hand(mostly because of my own fault). So I redid the aquarium. I put new bulbs in my 130 watt light pulled out the Black Skirt tetras and put in a new substrate for planted aquariums. I also started up 2 DIY CO2 containers. I did an 80% water change on the aquarium and added two new plants. At this point there were only 3 ottos in the aquarium.

I had been giving heavy feedings of algae wafers along with the algae in the tank and some dying leaves of plants.

Anyways I will test the tank soon and get some parameters up. I'll also try to get some pictures up.

There are the cute little things.

By the way all the plants in the aquarium are large leaf plants like swords and anubias.

Wow, thats awesome!
how big (or tiny!) are they?

I have discovered a few small otos in my tank, didnt buy any little guys, never saw any babies... Look too big to be fry..

Maybe mine shrunk?

wow great job, pics are cool too. I hear they're hard to breed but most people that have any do weren't trying to anyhow. I'm sure there are more in hiding. congrats!

Very cool!!! And a big congrats. Like nguyendetecting said, most spawns are by accident and when people try to breed them it seems hard. Keep posting pics of those little guys as they grow! It's part of your contract as a fishbreeding member of AC:grinyes::grinyes:!

Grats on the successful breeding of Otos, your probably making quite a few people jealous. But on the other hand reading through your tank description, I think you have too much light, you'd probably have better succes with 1 65watt bulb, especially if your going with DIY CO2, which should help with your algae problem.

Oh I don't have an algae problem. The algae's just growing slightly on the back wall. I need the higher light to get to my crypts.

I also have 3 Otos and I think one is loaded with eggs. If it is a male, then he is really, really fat. But since the other 2 are fairly skinny I think that the one is about to lay eggs. Any update on the water parameters? My pH is 6.8 and GH is about 50 ppm and KH 100 ppm. I also have swords and anubias. Did you notice any spawing behavior or where they lay their eggs per chance?

That is awesome! I know people who have tried and tried to breed their otos and can't. Increadible that when you leave them be, they just get to it lol!
