Got this filter with a used tank. Filter and pump work, but how do i (1) attach it to the tank? (2) put filter media in it, and what types? It's a marineland filter pump for pfe 3. When i google it, i get stuff relating to emperor and penguin filters. Are they related? Or is this thing a piece of something i don't have? Pic below.
Is it a pump for an Eclipse 3 hood? There should be a filter box built into the hood. The pump hangs on the left side and pours the water into the media box.http://www.fish.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=710532%20001

From what that site shows, it looks like i have a PART of a filter and not the entire thing. Is there a way to adapt ANY hob filter for using this intake? Or is it for use with a specific one? Sorry but i like this idea and would like to incorporate it in a tank, if only for aeration purposes. Perhaps just shorten the tube and attach a suction cup holder to hold it in place on the side of tank, for aeration instead of a bubble wand? Thanks for any input.

If you don't end up using it lemme know, The girlfriend has the hood but without the pump.
Did you contact the person that sold you the tank? Odd that they would give you the pump and the tank without the hood. Maybe they have it stashed away and just forgot to include it?
I guess you chould suction cup it to the side of the tank and use it just to move the water. Of course you would still need a proper filter.

If you can't get the rest of it, just buy a new AC filter, less problems not that much $$.

Wish i could re-contact the person, but i don't recall which used tank it came with :(. But thanks for the info anyways.
All of our tanks have AC's or similar type filters already, and all have some sort of air wand or bubbler in them already.

Yeppers...an eclipse 3 power head for filling the hood filter box. You could use it to get more circulation in a tank, though it is pretty ugly.

I have one of those, but the flow is too strong for a 10 gallon, so I use it to circulate my 30 gallon tank.

Well thanks to all for the info. It is a pump part of the Eclipse 3 filter, which i don't have. On to other things. Thanks to all.
