Anybody know a good garbage disposal model that can be plugged into an outlet and easily modified? I am tinkering with the idea of connecting a big impeller to a disposal motor in place of the macerator. Since the disposal already has plumbing fixtures, I figure it is a natural choice. Essentially, I want to be able to have a big pump that moves a LOT of water at the flick of a switch.

Overkill?

I think it would be easier to buy a regular 1/4 to 1hp pump at your local HD or Lowes.

Yeah, it would, wouldn't it? I just got struck with the inspiration to make something out of the disposal.

Inconceivable! :D

I was going to pump water from a mixing tank into a holding tank, and it has to go up one story. I have an extra disposal, which is how I got the idea. I'll probably just get a 1 HP pump to do it.

Seems like it might be useful for a high-volume transfer, but you would probably have to put way too much work into it to build enough pressure to go upstairs.

If you ever have a tank with a huge population of filter feeders, maybe you could use it to convert seafood into imitation zooplankton.

LOL! Just keep the macerator in and use it to liquefy shrimp and such until the filter feeders can use it, huh? Not a bad idea. :D I'll call it "marine snow"

There's also the possibility to build the mother of all wavemakers with it. Just imagine your tank as a swirling vortex!

Oh man, that made me laugh! I just this mental image of my tank like a shower drain. Talk about random water movement! Maybe I could create some kind of trap above the intake that kept fish out, but sucked green hair algae in....

I would be concerned that the disposal would have metal parts that would react poorly with salt water...

And now, I must be picky...

Westley says "Truly, you have a dizzying intellect." And, the line regarding R.O.U.S's is as follows:

Buttercup: Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
Westley: Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist.

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite flicks--I have it memorized.

Kreblak,

"Your intellect is truely dizzying!"
-The Dread Pirate Roberts

Like your quote, but I think truely is spelt wrong. Truly. Unless it is supposed to be ironic, in that case it's pretty funny.

And now we know why I got C's and D's in spelling while in elementary school. Truely, I made an error. ;)

No worries. Where did you get the quote from?

It is the line Wesley (aka The Dread Pirate Roberts) says to Veccini during their battle of wits in the movie "The Princess Bride"
