I am setting up a 30g extra tall nano reef, and I have been reading that its a good idea to paint the back of it black. Does anybody do this? I havn't really seen any pictures of it, but everyone talks about it.

the only painted background I have seen was a blue background and that looked kind of nice

Oh yeah. I am not going to have a sump so I will have to have my equipment in the display tank.

thanks everyone for your advice!

I paint the back outside with Krylon Fusion all the time. Use the satin black instead of the gloss it cuts back on reflection...

I painted the back of my 55 gallon with Krylon flat black. took about 2 cans or so. each layer dried within 10 min and it takes 24 hours to completely cure. I would highly recommend it :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I will do that then. I might go blue instead of black though.

Hey subluxt, where did you get that name from?

I was thinking about doing a dark blue with a touch of green. The one thing I don't understand, if you paint the outside of the tank, how would it matter if the paint was gloss or flat?

you can also just buy some vinyl...the peel and stick kind. easy to remove if you decide you don't like it or want to change colors.

Sounds like shelf liner might work... I don't know if the color goes through.

Heehee. When I first started going to college I had some back Issues. Seems my thoracic (sp?) seventh vetebrae was outta wack. So my chiropractor told me I had a subluxation of the thoracic seventh vertebrae, ergo SubluxT7. LOL.
