We just recently found out that our tank had ick. This is our first bout with it and we have the ick medicine. My question is how long does it take for the medicine to work. Is it instant or does it take longer? I know it says to treat again if necessary in 24 hours. Thanks!

Ick can take weeks to be completely rid of, as it comes in 3 stages -- the spots, the water-borne parasite, and the eggs. I use aquraium salt to get rid of the spots/parasites on the fish, then use the medication to treat the water resident parasites, which will usually kill the newly hatched... so what I do is use copper safe or aquarisol all the time in my tank to destroy any ich that crop up/hatch (because siphoning my tank to get rid of the eggs is a real PITA).

So to sound like a complete moron, if I just used the ick guard tablets, that's not gonna be enough. After two treatments and roughly 48 hours I'm not seeing much sign of the ick anymore. There are still a few spots, mostly on my silver dollar. Am I safe to keep treating it once every 24 or is there something else I should do now? Like the salt?

It's better to keep treating even after you can see no more spots on your fish, because the parasites attach themselves to plants, gravel, etc... I would keep treating untill you honestly think it is gone. It should not hurt the fish in your tank.

Just treated for Ick with Quick Cure blue water drops. Bottle says treat for two days but the store said administer for 5 and increase the tempurature a bit to fully cycle it out. After six days it seems to have done the trick.
