How do you feed frozen bloodworms to your fish?

*drop a chunk in and let it melt?
*thaw it in a bit of tank water, then pour it in the tank?
*the above but pick out the bw with a chopstick?
*some other method?

I feed frozen bloodworms to my wild bettas by thawing a small chunk in a bit of tank water, then using a chopstick feed a few at a time.

I'm curious what method you use.

thanks!

when i feed frozen foods i let it thaw in a plastic cup. I then drain off the juice and add some tank water to it(that way the bad juice isn't polluting my tank).

I use a eye dropper to feed my blood worms.I suck them up and can feed more precisely. That way i can add jsut the right amount of food wihtout having left overs all over the tank. My fish now recognize that when i stick the eye dropper in they get food,so they all swim over and peck at the eye dropper.

This method also works well for feeding fry.I started out jsut using the eye dropper to feed my fry but figured it worked so well why not try it on my other tanks.

ps: What ever you decide to do i have heard that feeding the frozen foods stick frozen in the chunk is bad. I dont' exactly know why but i guess eating still frozen foods can't be good for their tummies:p

I thaw on a coffee filter, or rinse through a coffee filter if I'm in a hurry. Then I scrape up a few at a time with a spoon.

I let the Bloodworms thaw on a paper towel. I think if the liquid gets in the tank, this might promote the growth of the dreaded 'blue-green algae'.

When they are thawed, we use a toothpick to scatter them on top of the tank. We try not to feed globs of the Bloodworms since the more aggressive fish will end up eating the most..

I will thaw any frozen fish foods before feeding..

I put a cube in a little bathroom paper cup of tank water to thaw. I leave for it in there for about 10 minutes or so, then dump everything in. No problems in the months and months I've been doing it.

I just dump in one or two cubes. I have 8 hungry angels, so nothing gets wasted. In your case, it seems your approach makes sense.

ps - I use my plant forceps so I never have to touch them. I definitely had reactions when I did touch them.

What brand are you using and what kind of reactions?

Hikari.

Today for some random reason, I decided to thaw them in a coffee filter before adding them to the tank. REally wasn't much of a difference.

I've thrown the cubes in frozen and I've thawed them and put them it. The fish don't seem to mind pecking apart the frozen cubes so I have begun doing it that way most of the time. Saves me a couple of minutes.

Yeah, I've also had allergic reactions to them, so I definately don't touch them. I made the big mistake of touching my eye once after handling bloodworms. My eye swelled shut for two days. Man, did that suck!

I just chuck mine in right out of the freezer..the little cubes melt very rapidly in warm aquarium water. I've never noticed any ill affects from feeding my fish this way...3 cubes are devoured in under a minute with all those hungry loaches in the tank. I'm very allergic to blood worms, so I try to handle them as little as possible. Even the tough tips of my fingers burn and itch like mad if I touch the worms too much. Seems when they are frozen, they aren't as "toxic" as when they are thawed.

How are you allergic to them?

I'll keep thawing the Bloodworms before feeding. My fish deserve to be spoiled...

Let's see, if I was real hungry, I guess I'd peck at that nearly frozen left-over meat loaf... LOL :D

I gotta put one brick in which is broken up into bits for everbody, and then half another brick into a chunk so I can reach down to the bottom so I can feed my shy ghost knife. If I don't deliver, he gets grumpy.

You should use tweezers to avoid touching the bloodworms at all. I use the same tweezers that I use for plant maintenance.
