I ordered a batch of pellia from AquaticMagic and it just came today but it looks nothing like what they had posted on the ebay site. this was what I was expecting

and this is what I got. Is this the same thing? And if so, how do I transform what I have into what is above?

Yeah... looks a bit rough though. If you look in the lower lefthand corner you will see some i had growing in a different tank that was transplanted here. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163102&page=8

It's best to tie this stuff to a rock and let it grow. It snowballs too in that as it grows it gets bigger almost exponentially. I statred with a small handful and have now parlayed that to having excess.

Here is a thread I started about meshing it to a rock. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154663

Lemme know how it works out.

Q

PS... is that stuff tied to something?

it came attached to some brown twig like stuff.. since it's such a small piece, what i've done for now is squished it all at the bottom of a jar and see if it will grow together into in piece.. it kept falling apart and the more I handled it the more it distintegrates which was why i wasnb't sure if there was something wrong wiht it

The stuff is brittle and needs to be handled carefully. Your best bet is to get it tied or meshed to a rock and let it grow.

Q

is it possible to get a better larger picture?

Save a few little pieces to grow in a jar so you can make more. It grows very quickly on the windowsil

Don't get discouraged :) I order java moss from Aquamagic once and it was in pretty bad shape too. With some patience though, it regrew completely. I'm sure your pellia will do the same!

thanks guys. i am not too sure how to tie it to anything as it falls apart as soon as I touch it which is why I've put it at the bottom of a jar squished. It came in some twiglike stuff, is that also part of the plant or is that what it had been adhered to before? also, Arakkis, do I just save a coupke of hte strands? or will it need to be a piece?

I have to say, that moss had to have gone through hell. I had a ball of java in a bowl set aside for many months, perfectly healthy and even growing a little.
