In another post I put on here i mentioned my plants being in pots and was told to gently remove them and plant them in my aquarium. This brought up a question and i was wanting to do this (i think it would look better with the top rim of the pots showing). Anyway here is what i need to know.

First of all, will the gravel i have in my aquarium make a good substrate? it is medium gravel i guess, nothing special about it. its about 1/4" in dia. at the largest pieces.

Second, if it is ok to plant in, what is the best way to take my current plants out and remove the pots and rockwool without damaging the roots? or at least keep damage to a minimum?

Third, i was thinking about getting some things to add to it to help them grow. Are Flourish Tabs anygood?

If this will help, here is a pic of my tank....the water appears green mainly because my wall is painted green and it has no background. I kinda like it myself.

here are some pics so you can see what i have to work with...as you can tell by the one plant with a tips of a couple leaves turning brown and my other that is only like 1/2" tall....i need some help.

thanks, im sure you guys can help me make it descent looking.

oh yeah, and that filter on the front is only temporary....im leaving it on there for a while so it will have enough bacteria for a Qtank i will use for my new betta i will be getting.

haha, oh yeah again...i also put 3 of those Aponogeton bulbs you can buy at wallmart in the back right corner to kinda make a background for that side. they still havent grown yet but they will probably be all the way up to the top of the water in a few weeks.

and it is a 20 gal. tank...should have put all of this stuff in the first post but i just thought of it.

ha, i came back and edited this one so i didnt put another post on here. Any suggestions for good beginner plants that will compliment this setup?

I am certainly not an expert but I think that gravel should be fine for growing. You could always add some substrate fertilizer tabs if u want. I'm also planning on setting up a planted 20 gallon soon.

I'm far from a plant expert but I think your gravel should be fine, only because I believe in simply working with what you have and seeing how it goes. Besides, I think your plants are better off out of the pots.

About the pots, I disengaged my first plant from one of those pots a little bit ago and it was a laborious experience. That is why I remember a thread on the issue. Here 'tis: http://64.191.28.50/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13919
