Got 3 oto's

Well i went to my LFS a little while ago to get a couple mystery snails for an algae problem i have in one of my tanks(cause it sits right next to a window) but before i went and asked for them go get me a couple i decided to browse the fish rows and look at the names on the lists they have and right at the top of the list for the second row i see otocinclus catfish and im like SWEET cause ive wanted a couple of these guys but had never noticed them there before and didnt want them bad enough to ask them to order me some so instead of getting the mystery snails i grabbed the last 3 oto they had and for $1.99 they were only a buck more than mystery snails were so i said WTH and got them instead

right on! i love otos, they are cute and small, and do the job right!!! better than mystery snails imo ;)

Good choice, mystery snails are not at all efficient algae eaters. I hope your otos do well for you!

yea i was only gonna get the snails cause this tank sits right next to a window and has a huge algae problem that i have been ignoring but it finally got to the point where i had to do something cause it was getting hard to see the fish if they went to the right side of the tank so i was just gonna get the snails for now and get oto when i redid the tank in a few months but since they had them i decided to get them now and they will just be full grown when i redo the tank

yea i have become a regular at this store and i hadnt noticed them there before but they did just redo their stocking and added some new fish and took some out within the last week and a half so these may now become a regular thing cause in less than a week they have sold out of them

and in a few months after i redo this tank the way i want it and if i have the room in this tank i might add a few more

ive also got another question will 3 be enough for a 29gal that sits right next to a window and that has already proven to grow algae pretty well and if not how many would be enough

Otos make short work of algae, but like corys, they do better if there are more of them. They aren't really shoaling fish, but they do like to have buddies of their same kind. They're small and they don't add much to the bioload so if it were me, I'd drop a few more of them in there. They do need quite a bit of algae to stay healthy so don't move the tank from the window if you get a lot of them. And don't forget to supliment them if you stop seeing visible algae in the tank.

oohh i have no plans to move the tank from the window it would be way too much work for me to do and im not big on doing alot of work

and yes once all of the algae is gone or alteast almost completely gone im gonna supplement with algae wafers and blanched veggies
