Four 3.5ish-inch discus in a 56g (30"x18"x24") tank. Driftwood is real, plants are not. :) Enjoy, I know i do!

I would bump the number of discus up to five, four is okay...but five is better. Those discus seem like juviniles, growing them out in a bare bottom tank is much easier to clean and maintain. Once they're adults, transfer them to the current tank.

Young discus need extremely clean water and many (5-8) feedings a day of high quality food (this can be hikari, omega one, FDB, frozen foods, homemade foods, ect.). By extremely clean water, I mean daily water changes of 40% or more. That's why bare bottom is best for young discus. Adults will settle for 2-3 water changes of 25% or more a week.

If you do not keep the water clean and feed them very often, the discus may become stunted and football shaped instead of round. Adult discus should be at least 6 inches, and clean water and frequent feedings are a must if you want to grow out these beautiful fish to their full potential. If you cannot feed often, I would recommend investing in a automatic feeder.

I would highly recommend going bare bottom for these young discus before putting them in a planted tank. Growing out young discus in a planted (even if its fake, its still harder to clean than bare bottom) tank usually will not allow the discus to grow and mature to their full potential.

Try to keep the nitrates at 0-10 for young discus.

Other than that, beautiful discus and tank!

Hey! A local! lol

Def nice discus, plan on getting some for my 75 when I clear it out. Def take some tips out of the above post, I dont own any, but researched alot. They need really clean water. I wouldnt change the layout, just keep it clean :)

Yeah, I'm already on 50% changes every other day for the tank. So far so good. I'm not growing them out to be perfect or anything, i just like keeping them for their personality and beauty. They definitely get fed a lot and I make sure their water is always clean. :)

I'll probably post more as I take them. They're quite photogenic compared to most.

Only change I'd like to make is a black backdrop. I have one for the tank, i've just never gone through the hassle of applying it. It makes such a difference though, so I should just bite the bullet and get it on there.

Thanks for all the compliments :) I was unsure about the big plants when I saw them in the store because they were rather expensive (about 20 bucks each!) but now that i see them in the tank, i wouldn't go with anything else. They've got big stone bases too, so i know they're not gonna pull out and float around the tank too! LOL

Black backdrops can darken your discus (they try to blend in) until they turn literally black, go for blue or leave it as. Its pretty now!

nice discs. I am planning to setup a separate tank for discuss also. Is it going to go well with real plants? I prefer to put some duck weeds and anubias maybe.
