I have a 125g with 2 8" oscars, a 7" pleco and 2 pictus cats. The only fish that I've ever seen the oscars go after was a knifefish that I no longer have and the pleco when they wanted his food. Could I add another mild mannered cichlid? I was thinking a larger species of geophagus. Specifically a dicrozoster that is for sale in my area.

Another question... if I could add said geophagus, does the substrate need to be sand? I have gravel right now.

I would say you are maxed, two oscars and a pleco is all i would put in a 125g.

Yep you may not be maked right now but the Oscars have some growing to do still. I would not add anything else.

thats why i love my african cichlids aye i like to see fish swimming in my tanks, i know most hobbyist will stick to the rules of stocking a tank but i am a rebel like that i like to push the perimeters a bit so to say, if you want that geophagus i would make sure it is of size before adding to this current aquarium maybe a pair of geo's but its pushing it a bit so make sure you stay up on water maintenance..

nah. tank is full enough as it is. btw, what's your filtration? oscars and plecos are really messy eaters.

Unlike African cichlids over stocking south American cichlids will make them more aggressive, also with the fish the op has already adding more fish is going to cause water quality issues.
