I set up an Eclipse 12gal as a hospital tank. I have an extra Hagan Aquaclear 301 powerhead I could put in it. Any reason not to have a powerhead in a hospital tank?
What setting should the 301 be on...low, med, high flow rate?
I get confused with all the calculations!
Thanks.

If you used it, set it to low. Personally, I'd just run the Eclipse filter with no media in it. I'm not sure of the flow rate of the 301, but the 201 is rated at 126 gph, at that's a good amount for a twelve gallon. Just my thoughts.

I have an aquaclear 201 on full throttle in my 10 gallon. It circulates the water, that's for darn sure! I kicks up some sand too, but I like my water moving. My 46 gallon tank had several dead spots due to low flow issues, and cyanobacteria began growing in earnest. I added an aquaclear 802 and the cyano went bye-bye.
You can put the setting on whatever you are comfortable with. Mine preference is as high a flow rate as I can get away with.
