Very cool, just another example of how an animal can be trained..

I saw it on the News this morning. Very cool! The operator was funny about it, but in this day and age of nothing but bad press for 911 centers, I was happy that she dispatched immediately.

What makes it even more amazing is that the dog called on a rotary phone.
Just kidding ;)
While it's nice that the dog did this, I suspect that the story is a little misleading. I doubt that the dog actually dialed 9-1-1 on the phone. My suspicion is that the dog actually hit some specially rigged button somewhere that summoned 9-1-1 for the owner.
Nice, but not as amazing as the story might lead one to believe. But I could be wrong, as even chickens have been trained to play tic-tac-toe.

Didn't the article specifically say it was a programmed button on the phone?

Buddy, now 18 months old, is able press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line, Clark said.
^4th paragraph from the bottom of the article.

Dang. And here I thought the media might be guilty of sensationalizing a news item. I've heard that it can happen. :)
