I have what appear to be spider mites in my paludarium. Is there anyway to kill them without removing my fish and snails from the water? The anoles could be temporarily moved to a 20g.

How to get rid of them?

You could try the old cigarette trick: hold a burning cigarette or cigar beneath the mite-infested areas, the smoke will cause them to suffocate. As long as you are careful not to drop ashes in the water and you use a fan to blow the smoke out after treatment, it should not affect your aquatics. *CAUTIONARY NOTE* I have never tried this in a terrarium. In fact I haven't done it at all (I'm not a smoker), but I have seen my grandparents successfully eradicate spider mites from houseplants using this method.

Ive dropped ashes in my 20 gallon tank before, but that was a lot of water to a few ashes.. and nothing happened.

They are on everything in there the substrate the wall and the driftwood. Thats not going to work. I need wide scale treatment that will cover my entire 90g tank.

I have heard about dry ice and suffocating them by the co2 gas produced what do you think?

I think that it would be better to burn something other than tobacco to kill them with smoke. If you take the lizards out you could find a nice dry spot, you could maybe put some smoldering paper in there and seal it up that might take care of it.

About the dry ice. I think that is a good idea. I think that I would be careful to not treat for too long. I would also remove all surface agitation from the water part as this would dissolve CO2 into the water and might kill the fish.

Could you take some pics I would like to see.

Do not use dry ice in a sealed container mixed with any amount of water. It will explode like a bomb, literally, and all it takes is a pea size amt to cause this.

good advise... I didn't mean fully sealed. just a piece of glass would do. CO2 is heavier than air and will pretty much stay in there without it but it will prevent a slight breeze from wasting the CO2.

maybe spray something to suffocate the mites? somethings sticky.. novaqua maybe? dunno just throwing ideas.. There are critters that eat mites like green lacewing but in a high humidity enviro it might be hard.
