View Full Version : Milwaukee Regulator issue
So I just came home from school all happy about the co2 setup.. Got the box out with the milwaukee regulator which came today and started checking out the beauty.. then i noticed that the needle in the right gauge is not in the same place as the needle in the left. Not sure whats wrong with it.. Anyone can help?

The gauge on the right (the working pressure gauge) seems to be busted. Its maxing out when there is no cylinder attached right?. Don't have that particular regulator but if it has adjustible flow, try opening it up and plugging in the solenoid to see if any pressure is trapped within.
Hooked it up to the co2 tank. Followed the directions on the box.. Opened everything in order and this is what i got, needle moved but in the clock wise direction.

Friend on aim suggested that the gauge on the right is in fact blown.. but its a new reg, fresh out of the box? whats the deal..
Sent a pm to water-testers.com place i got it from.. hope they can solve this problem.. Seems that one of the O rings thats below the bubble counter is bad 2. Its slightly leaking some of the water. Not sure if this is how all milwaukees are or I just got a defected one..

Okay BK here's the story - what has likely happened is that someone opened the regulator all the way and then opened the Co2 - blowing the gauge.
The Milwaukee is made to have the screw handle all the way off when attaching the Co2 tank and opening the Co2 tank valve. Then the screw handle is slowly screwed on to release the Co2 into the regulator.
This is exactly the opposite of a garden hose, for example. All the way tightened down on the garden hose (righty - tighty) is closed; whereas, all the way down on the Milwaukee is wide open. If this happens and the Co2 tank is opened, the gauge blows.
Bad O-ring also - looks like this reg is going back!

I found a few posts on plantedtank.net where ppl blew theirs either while setting it up or right after switching out co2 tanks.. Seems pretty common. Someone actually emailed milwaukee ppl and they replied saying that 70% of ppl who have their reg have the busted right guage..
I would accept the fact and live with it if it was me who screwed the guage up. And though i guess it works to a certain extent with the blown gauge (read that only thing hard about that is setting proper bubble rate) I dont really want to live with it since hey i want to get my moneys worth..

If it was like this when you first opened the box I would have boxed it back up, called them immediately and returned it ... some sellers refuse to take them back in this condition since they are so easy to blow/break. Hopefully they will work with you on this - I would guess that maybe this was a previous return that they sent you by mistake.
I also have a milwaukee, but it looks different than that one (MA957) I made sure I had the directions sitting right by me and went step by step when sitting it up.

Idk at first i thought it was perhaps a return since the box was in somewhat bad shape, then the problem with the bubble counters o ring and then the gauge..
Still no reply from the seller. Will update later..

did you purchase it as NEW?
I bought one of these and out of the box it was fine..
my needle valve plugged up, and I opened up the pressure to dislodge whatever was in there. I overwound the low pressure gauge and it is stuck like yours.
I have since ordered new needle valve and a new 30psi gauge. much better now.
Im guessing it was new since on that site it said nothing about it being used.
I found a site which has them low psi gauges for around $15 shipped.. but why spend more $ when it shouldve been right the first time.

(its a better gauge anyway)

It's frustrating to wait, but insist on the seller replacing it. It's the principle. You should get what you paid for, not just do. You paid for 2 working gauges.
If the seller doesn't respond within 48 hours, I'd send another email, letting them know you'd like to be contacted within 24 hours or you're contacting the BBB.
That gives them 72 hours to respond. In the professional world 72 hours is gracious time to allow them to at least say "we're looking into and we'll get back to you". They should've responded within 24 hours, but 72 hours really gives you something to complain about.

While the needle valve that comes with the regulator may not be the best, the regulator is good. A blown gauge isn't an indicator that this is a cheap regulator. It's easy to blow a gauge. At work I keep dozens as spares because the spring inside is delicate and easy to blow, just the nature of a pressure gauge.

Jeff thanks for the post. Normally the seller responded to my emails by the following morning. This time nothing so far. I sent them another email and forwarded to a 2nd email they use. Will see what happens by tonight.
I got the reg hooked up now and running "good" but who knows how that 2nd gauge will affect its use later on.
Will keep you guys posted.
Zig thanks for the link.

Yes BK. I'm impatient too, gotta deal with it. Blown gauges are quite common. I once thought I had indeed have a blown gauge as well, but I found out it actually worked for me later(so it wasn't actually blown, it malfunctioned for a little bit on me). The plate inside was just bent upward.

I love this. The seller is very understanding and is actually sending out the new one on monday with a return label to send the defected one back. That means no need to turn off co2 during that time!! woot woot
Will post a nice review later on on the seller.
