I have two black fin sharks and I bought them from the closest store with fish which was Wal-Mart and I read on the info boards about these sharks that they would not get bigger than three or four inches then I'm onthe internet and find a site that says the fish get to be 12-16 inches:eek: and I only have them in a 10 gallon tank, but I also read that they may only get to be 6 inches long what should I do about my fish because I want them to have full productive lives:(
sad and confused
These are not good hobby fish, and certainly not novice fish. Return them to the store unless you are prepared to provide a tank larger than 6x2x2 feet, multiple filters and strong current.

You should also be finding another store to go to, no matter how far because you're doing a very bad thing when you buy fish and aquarium supplies from wal mart. Their fish are always in bad health, the water quality is garbage, they give horrible advice and nobody generally knows what they're doing there. They have no right to sell live animals at that store.
however, RTR is right. You need at least a 100g for those fish and alot of filtration. Generally most brackish tanks need alot of filtration because the most popular brackish fish are generally very messy and get rather large (scats, monos, black shark cats, archers, green chromides, puffers). Also if you can, order your brackish fish online as you're most likely to get better stock, cheaper prices and more of a variety of stock (brackish fish are hard to find).
BTW where in canada are you?
I have three Shark Catfish or ("which ever name you choose to call them") :D I got them when they were about an inch long and now they are all about six inches. They are every restless fish to the point of finding them in the middle of my living room (the tank is in my dinning room) 12 feet away crawling on their fins to find water.
DON"T WORRY ANYONE
They are all safe and sound in the tank now and there won't be any more escaping.
A lid is necessary for these fish this also cut down on the water spots on my stainless steel top dinning room table and on the windows and anything else they were splashing.
