i was at the closest pet store with fish which is Wal-Mart and the people there told me that the columbian sharks should only grow to 4 inches so i bought a couple and on the internet i have found out that they grow to 12 inches what should i do? Do i keep them because they are in a 10g right now and only 3 inches long and buy a larger tank as they grow larger or sell them so that when they grow larger they will already have a community set up? I only want the best for my fish

Did the also tell you they are a brackish fish?
As for what you can do, you can call the store and request to speak with the manager and see if you can return them for a full refund because of what the employee said. And that you didn't realize your size tank would be to small for them.
(ooops, you live in canada so this quote, i am deleting).
What you want to do with the fish, is your choice. But a 10 gallon will get mighty cramped for these guys, when adults need a 150 gal size tank.

Wal-Marts are pretty receptive to returning stuff in general, so even if the store posts a no-return policy on things like plants or live pets, you'd do well to speak to the manager. Also, take some corroborating evidence along with you, like the printout of the species you found from the internet. I really wouldn't expect you to have a problem...
Then, you ought to start looking for a better fish/pet store (abbreviated on boards as LFS) to get your fish from.
So, what else do you have in your tank?

i have 2 neon tetras, 8 guppies and 1 cory (bronze) catfish in the same tank as the sharks.
I have another question if no one objects
i have a male siamese fighting fish( i have been asked if it was a FW or SW and i don't know the difference:) ) so can you maybe shed some light on that subject as well as tell me what an earlier problem might have been so i can prevent it if possible please
I have only had my siamese male for a year and a few weeks ago he started to act weird-by weird i mean not eating, sitting at the bottom of his bowl(1g) and he turned a strange white color- i changed his water, gave him a new plant and treated him with a general fungus treatment
he now looks his color(purple) and is more active now but he still isn't eating as much as he used to i've read that they don't live that long and i'm wondering if that was from old age and i should be prepared for his dealth or is it was something else.

First of all, betta's can live much longer than 1 year...despite popular belief, bettas can live for 5+ years. My oldest betta (which just recently died) lived for 7.5 years. The main reason people say bettas only live for 2 years or so is because these type of people place bettas under extream conditions (ie no filter, small "bowl", no heater, etc...). I don't care what someone else tells you --- bettas need a tank just as any other fish. Sure, they can survive a small bowl with no filter but will they live to their full potential? No. Infact, breeders will tell you they place their fish in small containers but the thing they DON'T tell you is that these are fish they are selling ASAP and hence, they don't deal with them 3 years down the road.
Hey Tigger,
Did Wally World take your columbian sharks back?
