Well...it is finally time to set up the Octogon tank. The plan for this one are angels...probably four. I might keep some kuhli's for the bottom. What are some other tank buddies I can consider for final stocking?

A pair of angels would be all I would put in there they can be pretty aggressive when mating.

I wouldn't add angels to this setup at all. True, they prefer a tall tank, but the small footprint of a hex or octagon tank would leave them little horizontal swimming space. Of course, this is JMO, but I'd stick to small schooling fish and a small centerpiece fish, or maybe a pair of dwarf cichlids as your centerpiece like rams or apistogramma. Also, I'd advise you to stock lightly since the small surface area allows for less gas exchange as compared to a conventional rectangular tank. Good luck! :)

:iagree: angels are really to large for an octagon 30. a dwarf or honey gourami is also a good choice doe a centerpiece.

I have to agree as well. I would not put angels in that tank. A pair of pearl gouramis would be nice.

Yeah, I have a 65 gal hex (26" accross in all directions) and can only swing 1 pair of angels in it.

I have a 37 tall eclipse tank I was going to put angels in.
So what are good tankmates anyway?
right now the tank is cycling..

I have a pair of bolivian rams with mine, a BN pleco, and getting a shoal of 10 rummy nose tetras.

"Larger" tetras, rasboras, corys, loaches, plecs, rams, apistos, hatchets, etc.

Pretty much anything that isn't aggressive and won't fit into their mouth.
