hi, i have inherited some green hair algae which came with some l/r.My tank has diatoms now in the decline but the green hair algae still seems to want to stay. The rocks have been in for 3 weeks now and parameters are good amon.0.trites 0,trates <20,phos.0.i have a regal tang that is doing a good grazing job on the shorter stuff and a large population of snails also.what is the best fish to introduce that will take care of this longer green hair algae(around 2"-3")or do you think with regular maintenance to keep water quality good that it will dissapear on its own??
p.s. i put the l/r in tank after a 6 week fishless cycle had completed.

Have you identified the species of green hair algae you have? If you have Bryopsis, then there is only one fish than can eat it, because bryopsis is toxic. A Foxface Lo will graze bryopsis successfully. If you have derbesia, or anything else, then a lawnmower blenny might be a good fish for you.
Aside from fish, try some blue legged hermits. They have done great things to the green hair algae in my tank. I also have an emerald crab, a cleaner shrimp, and a sea urchin. All love the hair algae, and have really helped trim it back.
Keep your water parameters up to par, don't let any phosphates into the tank or let your nitrates get high, and this stuff ought to go away. Mine is slowly going away, but my use of conditioned tap water for 8 months has left my phosphates sky high. Yours should go away faster.

It takes a while for SW tanks to settle down and mature(usually at least 8 months). During this time you may experience many different types of algae. IMHO the best procedure is to due frequent water changes and use RO/DI water for water changes and top offs. You can also cut down the feeding to every other day.
