Setting up a pressurized system (http://www.rexgrigg.com/regset.html)
Might as well read the whole site, it's got a lot of useful information.

The page jmhart linked to is very good. So is the entire site. Rex's site is very straightforward, no nonsense and to the point.

Thanks for the advice, I am worried the tank i bought is not a CO2 tank know because my part to connect is not a screw on but a screw in.

Talk to your local gas supplier (Cee-Kay or Airgas or whoever) - see if you can work out a trade, thus skipping the initial deposit usually required when you go w/ a tank swap program.

It turns out that the canister is a nitrogen tank, so for trade in people will only give me like 15 but I just spent 40 on it any ideas what I can do with it.

http://www.beveragefactory.com/ has some adapters as well as CO2 regulators.

You can only put co2 into a cylinder with a CGA-320 connection, so can't use an adapter. No company will fill it if it's not a CO2 cylinder.
If you have a different connection on your regulator, you can work that out, but different cylinder is a no go
