Would love to see some pics of deck or patio ponds other people have done. I'm building L shaped wood one on my deck and have surfed threads and don't see any. This pic is from 2yrs ago, all fish still alive and having babies now so need more room.
I had thought of that too, but was worried about weight. If you sunk the plastic tub would it put to much stress on the curled rim ? My deck is 6' in the air so am building wood with bottom support and going to insulate the sides and bottom between the liner and wood.
Well if you were going to build a support for the bottom I don't see why it would be a problem. If you were just going to suspend it by the rim, I guess that could be an issue, as I'm sure it wasn't really built for that.

You could always build the support underneath it to take all the weight, but, leave it risen just enough so it "appears" to be suspended by the rim....Think what would make a nice effect...
True, a lower deck would prob. look good. I'm not putting hole in deck as the bottom would have to be covered by lattice or something, would look ugly otherwise Also want on top so I can take down if I ever move.
Check out this thread...sorry, haven't figured how to insert a link yet...
Thread is called "Daily log of constructing a tropical fish pond" by lousybreed, began 2/19/07. It is an above ground wooden "planter box" style, that was built so it could be taken down and moved if they moved. It sits on the ground, but I don't know why you couldn't put a bottom on it and set it on a deck.
For a deck pond all you really need is a frame and a pond liner. You could easily place insulation under the liner and around the sides. There's an indoor koi pond at an lfs built like that, I don't see why it would be much different outdoors.
