Well thats it... I finally bit the bullet and ordered my discus from Kenny's Discus in Daly City SF. After doing my research I found out that a lot of people have dealt with him in the past and that he consistently has good stock and is a great guy to do business with. With a little to no prodding from Debbi (pinkertd) I was convinced to get my fish from him. Just got off the phone with him earlier and I placed my order in. It will be shipped tommorow and coming in on Friday morning. I have my grow out tank all set up and I'm good to go. Here's a couple of pics from Kenny's sponsor page on the simply discus forum of the strains I will be receiving:
1 Blue Diamond
1 Cobalt
2 Leopards Reg Grade
1 Checkerboard Pigeon
Can't wait to get them.... Thanks all for looking... :headbang2:

Hey Marl, I hadn't seen any posts from you lately so I was wondering what you had decided. You will be sooooooooooo pleased with your fish, no doubt about it. And keep the cell phone on, Kenny will call you several times to see how they are doing. How many sellers do follow up! I am so excited for you!!! Can't wait to hear back from you after you get them. Please tell Kenny I said hi and my discus are all fabulous and I haven't traded in my couch for another tank....yet!!! Wish I had more room, I'd have another dozen!!!

keep an eye on your water params your dkh and dgh are pretty low.
are you using RO water?
my source water is soft.. the dkh is 3-4 and the dgh is 6
but with the kh at 3-4 the water is stable

ummm i really dont know! i did a 70% water change on a cylcled tank...straight from the tap and added prime yesterday...
is this good or bad? i can add baking soda to raise the KH but my fish are already here and acclimating as we speak...
or is my test kit out of whack? i have the red sea one... im guna do another test

ok so i reread the instructions for the test kits on GH/KH
I think i have found the problem... I made a mistake in the procedures in copmpleting the tests..:wall::wall::wall::wall:
instead of coninously adding the drops UNTIL i get the correct color on the card I only did it when it fist had a hint of the color (ie it was the same color but lighter):mad2:
oh well...stupid me.... :headshake2: but after redoing the tests my results were:
GH: 6ppm
KH: 4 PPM
whew what a relief! everythings ok...:grinyes:
Now i can transfer my fish in peace...

that is a good level to have.. the water is soft which discus thrive in.
spend time and properly raise the discus and you will get years of pleasure from them.
I raised mine from 2" and they are now 6" and over 3 yrs old(I think):wall:
