This is a problem Ive been having with my oldest angel and its really got me wondering.
Every once in a while I will see him gasping at the surface of my tank. He eats fine, greets me when I walk up to the tank, and looks healthy.
I have plenty of surface agitation, a bubble wand, a penguin 1140 powerhead pointed up, and 2 cascade 1000 canisters with the spraybars pointed at the surface. I don't have any live plants at the moment, but will probably buy some around my birthday along with some new bulbs.
I do weekly water changes of 50% and my readings are almost always 0,0,10 with a ph of 7.6 or so.
The only thing I can think of is I had inherited him from a friend that didn't know about fish tanks and possibly has ammonia burns on his gills. I just observed him doing it which is what prompted this thread, but now im looking over and hes swimming along the bottom looking for left over food and seems to be doing fine.
Im really stumped.
