breeding kribs

I just got two kribs (male and female) and they have staked out a cave and are gaurding it and and occasionaly sparr and rub bodies

any tips?

what size tank and tank mates? Do you have small fine gravel? it'll make it easier for them to dig pits and what not. If not if they pair they'll most likely breed either way. I would just leave them be and make sure they get enough food. Don't be suprised if they eat the eggs the first few times. They'll figure it out. Many times one of them will chase the other away from either the fry or the egg stash. Just keep your eye on them. Oh can you see in the cave??

it is a 38g planted, half is heavily planted with wendetiis and the other half is some what rocky with an amazon swordplant and the have a cave made out of mopani wood. the gravel is boarding on sandy and the female has begun digging a pit in the cave and showing deeper red coloration the male has begun to show red on his belly. the tankmates are 2 3" angelfish 3 2" swordtails and 1 lonely hachetfish. yes i can see in the cave but not too well. thanks for the help.

oh and the female is some what thinner and appears to be guarding egg but every now and the the male will come in and fan the eggs in the cave but the amount of eggs is slowly dropping you where right about the egg eating part.:headbang2:

well cool, congrats. The angelfish will probably pick off some fry as will maybe the swordtails at first. but the fry grow fast. My female never really came out to gaurd anything. She stayed in the cave most of the time. The fry are really really small and you won't be able to see them at all really.

well the eggs are gone now the krib decided to go eat and a swordtail snuk in and got a few and then the female kinda gave up and ate the eggs (along with the male).

That's perfectly normal for the parents to eat thier frys,but they will not eat them after more batches.

why do you need your post count up to 50?

It won't take very long for them to lay another batch of eggs.Once the fry do hatch they should be free swimming in about 5-7 days.After that it mitght take them a couple trys to not eat the fry.I got lucky with that on my first try.They do make great parents though. In my experience better than convicts do.Both parents will eventually learn to really guard their babies well. Good luck and keep on trying. Once you get them to survive you'll really enjoy seeing them grow.:thm::woot::dance:
